Suzanne Levy Ed.D.
for AHC Board of Trustees
For over 30 years I have been involved with Allan Hancock College and currently serve as the AHC Trustee for Area 2. As a Trustee, I sheparded the college through the pandemic, supported underserved students through new initiatives, and helped the college to grow with three new facilities. I understand the value that Hancock College brings to our community. I have a commitment to ensuring that every student has equal access to quality education, have conticured to be accessible to the community and the college, and have supported every aspect of the college by staying informed and participating in many college events.
Both my Bachelor’s and Doctorate degrees are in education, with my dissertation, “The Planning and Implementation of Online Distance Learning in the California Community Colleges” never more relevant than now. In addition, I am a former School Board Member for the Hope School District in Santa Barbara. With my vast range of educational and community experience, I am perfectly qualified and committed to providing excellent and accountable leadership.
Frankly, as a mother of five and like other parents, my community involvement stemmed from the desire to support the organizations and entities that impacted my children. I grew to understand that my work benefited not only my own children but the students around them and my engagement blossomed. As the President of the Board for the Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum, I oversaw the fundraising, budget, and building of the current facility and I’m heartened that my grandchildren can now enjoy it. While my five children attended local schools, I served on seven different PTA boards. Away from school sites, I’ve served on boards and volunteered with numerous non-profit organizations in the Santa Maria Valley. Again, mixing many of my interests, at the same time, I’m currently on the President of Awakening Giantz, an organization that supports youth aging out of the foster care system, and I am on the capital campaign committee for the OASIS Center in Orcutt.
I am also the Commission for the 5th District for the Santa Barbara County Women's Commission. Knowing the college and the community as well as I do allows me to interact effectively with all constituents to ensure that students receive the highest-quality education, strong programs of community education are maintained, entertainment and enrichment opportunities expand, and the college upholds its outstanding status as one of the top employers in our community.
I look forward to continue to work with people of many backgrounds and skill sets to continue the tradition of excellence at Allan Hancock College.
